About the subject
The Btec Sport Level 3 courses are designed for those Learners, who have an interest and passion for sport and PE. Students can choose to do a Single, Double depending on what their interests are. A combination of assessment methods are used across the range of courses, to develop student’s confidence in their own ability to apply knowledge in order to succeed in the workplace, or go onto higher education. Within the course there are specialist Units, providing the learner with more in depth understanding of specific areas within the sports industry. These courses are ideal for learners, who excel in coursework.
Learning styles
Sports students learn best by doing, therefore the course aims to develop the skills and knowledge that real life workplace or academic life brings. Students will need to work practically as well and compiling written work. The course will enable students to think about new theories and ideas, watch how these are applied, take part in practical’s to understand further and experience new situations.
Subject Combinations and Progression
Students Studying the Single sport will add two other subjects to their programme of study, these can be either A levels, or other single/double BTEC level 3 courses. Those pursuing the Double Sport, have the option of 1 other A Level or Single Btec. In their second year, students may want to study the Higher Sports Leader qualification, which develops coaching skills and leadership qualities.
Subject Modules and Assessment
Students are assessed using the following methods; Written assignments, Exam based and synoptic assessment. The assignments are set internally and marked by the teaching team. The exam based units are sat on a set date and marked externally. The synoptic assessment is a seen scenario, whereby, students are given research time, before they sit this assessment.

Single Sport

- Total Units 4 (3 Mandatory Units plus 1 Optional Unit)
Double Sport
- Diploma 720GLH
- Same size as 2 Alevels
- Total Units 9 (6 Mandatory units plus 3 Optional units)
Entry requirements
An average GCSE grade of 4 and above, including Grade 4 in English Language and a 4 in either Maths or Science.
