Foundation courses Art and Design BTEC First Level 2 (Pearson) This one year, Level 2 course would suit students wishing to add a vocational art and design-based course to their options. You will develop technical abilities in art and design and learn about the entire creative process, from initial brief to end product. The course also explores development skills and creative challenges through research and drawing. You will explore exciting assignments and build a portfolio of work through 2D and 3D, Printmaking, Painting, Graphic Image Making, Craft design, and externally set exam projects. Students must already have an interest in art and design. Specific entry requirements Average GCSE Grade of 3 Business BTEC First Level 2 (Pearson) This one year Level 2 course offers the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge and understanding related to the world of business, as a preparation for employment, or progression to Advanced Level Business and further education. The areas covered range from business administration, financial planning, the roles of people within organisations, development of online activities and the key pressures businesses face. Students will be predominately assessed via coursework and two exams covering Finance and Marketing. Specific entry requirements Average GCSE Grade of 3 Child Development and Care Technical Award Level 2 (NCFE CACHE) This one year course, has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to gain a vocational qualification providing a basic introduction to the early years sector. It includes a knowledge and understanding of child development and well-being 0-5 years, how to observe a child, plan activities and routines, develop a child’s independence and support their learning. Students who study this course can gain the understanding and skills needed to prepare for employment in the early years sector or to progress to the Level 3 T Level. They may be aiming to become early years educators, teachers, nurses, midwives, social workers, and many other roles in additional education and care. Assessment is 50 % coursework and 50% External examination. Specific entry requirements Average GCSE Grade of 3 English GCSE (AQA) All students who have not achieved a Grade 4 or above in GCSE English Language will need to enrol on this course. You will join a friendly and supportive team who have the reputation of delivering outstanding results. Assessment will involve analysing a variety of literary and non-fiction texts in preparation for two exams: Paper 1: Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing, and Paper 2: Writers’ Viewpoints and Perspectives. If you have previously followed the AQA GCSE English Language syllabus (first examined in June 2017) there may be an opportunity to retake in November.
