News Stone Farm Rocks! 20.06.2022
Collyer’s Year 12 students returned to Stone Farm Rocks, for the first time since 2019, to undertake mandatory field work that hasn’t been possible for the past two years. The students were accompanied on the trip by Collyer’s Dr Ian Carr and Penny Fenton.
Dr Ian Carr, Collyer’s Head of Geology & Environmental Science, and Assistant Director of the Science Faculty, explained: “Stone Farm Rocks, in the beautiful Sussex countryside, is the perfect place to carry out the required practicals for the Geology course.”
The students benefitted from being accompanied by two experienced professional Geologists, David Shilston and Helena Griffiths. David is the former Geological Society of London President and works for Atkins Global, while Helena is a local geologist with 17 years of international industry experience.
Dr Carr added: “Helena has been contributing to the Geology course for over four years, while Collyer’s continues to grow its links with Atkins. Both David and Helena also kindly gave talks as part of the Kirsty Brown events held at Collyer’s this academic year.”
Dr Rob Hussey, Vice Principal (Curriculum) said: “Colossal thanks to Ian, Penny, Helena and David for making the Stone Farm Rocks field trip possible.”
