News Creative Arts Careers In The Frame 30.07.2022

Recently, 66 students from the Photography, Contemporary Fine Art, Graphics, Textiles and BTEC Art & Design departments visited the University for the Creative Arts Farnham campus. The visit to the university Open Day forms part of the visual arts departments’ extensive progression programme and provided the students with an incredible insight into creative arts study, and life at a university campus.

Laura Andrews, Collyer’s Head of Photography and Assistant Director of the Faculty for the Arts, said: “Staff and students were warmly welcomed by UCA ambassadors. During the day we were able to view the fantastic degree shows, listen to subject lectures, and see the specialist teaching spaces for subjects including Photography, Fine Art, Illustration, Graphic Design, Comic & Concept Art, Games Design and Games Animation, Jewellery and Silversmithing, Ceramics and Glass as well as Design for Theatre & Screen, Journalism and Communications.”

Staff also caught up with former Collyer’s student Felicia Zappulo at her graduation exhibition for Graphic Design. Felicia was very happy to see her former college tour the graduation shows and spoke about her work which received a 1st class in Graphic Design.

Collyer’s Contemporary Fine Art and Textiles student Sam Green said: “I found the day very helpful in sorting out what I wanted both from a university and from the courses I will apply to. It has really helped clarify my direction.”

Students also enjoyed the sunshine and dined alfresco in break from the heady day of lectures exhibitions and talks.

Beth Flanders who studies Contemporary Fine are said: “I really in enjoyed the day and felt that the university had really put a lot of effort into demonstrating what they had on offer. The variety of work on display helped me decide what interested me. I am very glad I came along to visit.”

Photography and Contemporary Fine Art student Carolina Olim Felix added, “it was good to be able to visit the accommodation and halls as well as see what was on offer. It is important to experience the full university environment and I was thankful for that. Open days are so important in helping you make decisions. It was a very thought provoking and informative day.”

Collyer’s Director of Progression (HE) and Art teacher Ian McAlister said: “It was a truly inspiring day, and our students were an absolute credit to Collyer’s.”

It was incredibly inspiring for all who visited and wonderful to be able to help our students decide on their next steps after college.
