About the subject

A 2-year technical course covering core educational themes from birth to nineteen years with specialist early years education and care content from birth to seven years.
You will learn how to promote the learning, development and care of children and young people within the age range 0-19 years considering their health, safety, wellbeing and developmental needs.

What are the benefits of a combined academic and vocational course?
As well as offering excellent opportunities for academic study, this course has a practical application, leading you towards a qualification which meets occupational competency standards for the early years sector. Upon completion of this course you will possess the vocational skills required to enter directly into employment in a range of early years settings, including day nurseries, pre-schools, classrooms, holiday play schemes, after-school clubs and private homes (sole charge nanny) with potential for future supervisory roles.

This course provides a strong route into Higher Education with UCAS points equivalent to 3 A Levels
The academic skill set you will develop during these 2 years will provide a strong basis for higher education in degrees such as primary teaching, early years education, early childhood studies, special needs education and other related subjects.
Please be aware that this course includes sensitive themes related to childhood illnesses, abuse, mental health, and trauma.

Learning styles

Three days a week in college – you will participate in class discussions and practical workshops, undertake research and present your work in a variety of formats; developing a range of skills that will aid your study and career progression.
Two days a week in an Industry Placement – you will be provided with three different Early Years settings over two years, working with children aged birth to five years.
You will be assessed and graded on your practical skills performance as well as your written application of knowledge and understanding.

Subject Combinations and Progression

T Level Education and Childcare is a three course choice and takes up a full programme of study. No other subjects can be studied alongside the T Level.

Holistically delivered and assessed in 12 Core Elements:

*Child Development, *Supporting Education, *Safeguarding, *Behaviour, *Observation & Assessment, *Equality & Diversity, *SEN & Disability, *English as an Additional Language, *Parents, Families & Carers, *Working with Others, *Reflective Practice and *Wider Context.

You will also follow an Occupational Specialism route in Early Years Education and Childcare.

Assessment includes written exams, controlled assessments and skills-based tasks that are carried out in your Industry Placement.

Minimum Subject Entry requirements

Average GCSEs of grade 4 or above including 4 in English Language and Maths
Satisfactory references and a completed DBS certificate.
A commitment & ability to undertake practical training in an early years setting in Horsham & the surrounding area (which may incur travel costs).
