News Collyer’s Bursary Success 21.11.2018

This week Collyer’s presented bursaries to 9 first year students, in recognition of their outstanding results at school. Bursaries were awarded to a student from each of the key local partner schools and to students achieving top grades from schools north, south, east and west of Horsham.

Amy Dallas (who previously attended Tanbridge House), Linden Graves (Forest), Eleanor Grey (Oathall), Colette Holdsworth (Hurstpierpoint); Samuel McQuaker (Warden Park), Sejal Patel (Millais), Hayley Puddefoot (The Weald), Meg Savage (Farlington) and Emma Wallace (Tanbridge House) were each presented with a cheque by Collyer’s Principal, Sally Bromley.

Sally Bromley explained: “It is important that Collyer’s recognise the outstanding work of our excellent partner schools, by rewarding some of our new students for their academic success in year 11.

“We attract students from right across the region, so it is fitting that we should also reward those coming to us from farther afield. I’m sure the money will be put to good use to help support their education or extra-curricular activities while at Collyer’s.”

Linden Graves said: “I am very grateful to be receiving this award and would like to thank the teachers at Forest who helped to prepare me for my GCSEs”

Colette Holdsworth brilliantly balanced GCSE study with representing the British Youth Team for Carriage Driving Trials, where she was ultimately being crowned the U18 European Champion! She said: “Thanks to the hard work put in by my family and Hurstpierpoint College I was able to find time to revise for my GCSE’s and competing at selection events during that year.

“I am loving each day at Collyers and I’m looking forward to the new challenges of A-Levels and advancing in the sport of Carriage Driving Trials.”

Sejal Patel is enjoying her first term at Collyer’s: “I would just like to say a massive thank you to all of the teachers who supported me at Millais and helped me to perform to the best of my ability. I am thrilled with the start that I’ve made at Collyers and look forward to growing over the next two years!”

Hayley Puddefoot said: “I’d like to thank my teachers, especially Mr Cooper and Miss McInerney, from The Weald School for supporting and pushing me to exceed my targets.”

Horsham’s College of Richard Collyer, widely known as Collyer’s, was founded in 1532 and is one of the country’s leading sixth form colleges. The institution offers free post 16 education and enjoys an “Outstanding” rating from Ofsted. In 2018, Collyer’s once again achieved excellent exam results.

A quality education remains a top priority and it is no surprise that Collyer’s attract students from across the south east of England and internationally.

Sally Bromley told the students: “You’ve all made a great start to life at Collyer’s and I’m confident that your individual success stories can continue into advanced level and beyond. You are a credit to the excellent schools you attended and I’m sure that they are extremely proud of your outstanding GCSE achievements!”
