About Access to Higher Education Diploma (Healthcare Professions)
Our Access course provides an exciting opportunity to gain the required qualifications for entry to a healthcare related degree at university.
The course is suitable for students who do not have traditional qualifications such as A Levels, or who require relevant qualifications to meet the entry requirements for their chosen degree.
This is an intensive one year course for those looking to progress to University for degrees in Nursing, Midwifery, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy and other related disciplines. It is also suitable for those looking to progress to a degree-level apprenticeship in a relevant field.
Our Access course provides an excellent foundation for you to study at university level. Alongside subject specific learning, you will also develop academic and research skills that are necessary to study at degree level.
Our course has excellent success rates, and it is delivered by highly experienced and knowledgeable tutors. Students can benefit from learning support sessions where appropriate.
Learners attend classes for two evenings a week plus one Saturday a month. You will study modules in:
- Biology
- Health
- Psychology
- Study Skills
Entry Requirements
You should be aged 19+
You should have English GCSE grade C/4 or above, or the Level 2 equivalent.
A Maths qualification is not required for this course, however, may be required for degree-level study, depending on the university and course.

Assessment
There are no end of year exams.
Assessment takes place throughout the course and includes essay, exams, presentations and coursework. You will submit these via an online E-portfolio.
Progression
Most students progress to university or a degree level apprenticeship after this course.

Induction
Students are required to attend a College induction prior to the course start date.
Fees
A £150 deposit is payable at the point of booking.
This course may be free (fully funded) to students who are 19-23 and don’t already hold a full Level 3 qualification.
Most students use an Advanced Learner Loan to fund the course fees. These loans are written off when you complete your degree.
(The standard fee for this course is £3,534.)
There are no external exams/assessments. Scheduled internal exams/assessments costs are included in the course fees. However, resits will be charged for.
Prior to enrolling on any qualification course, please consider carefully if you have the time to commit to this course.
If you start a course and do not complete it, or if your attendance rate is low, this might affect your eligibility to join funded courses in the future.
