News Chess Tournament Moves to Collyer’s 18.03.2024
Collyer’s recently hosted the Sussex Juniors Chess Grand Prix.
Maths teacher and Head of Electronics, Alex Taylor, who runs the chess team at Collyer’s, was delighted: “It was an honour to host this prestigious event here at Collyer’s. It proved to be a massive success enjoyed by all, and our chess players certainly did us proud!
“Ben Crosby was in the Under 18 Major and scored a respectable 2.5/6. Sam Smith and Evie Stebbings were playing in their first tournament in the Under 18 Minor. Sam scored 3.5/6 and came close to beating the section winner (who got 6/6), while Evie scored an amazing 4.5/6 and came 2nd out of 32 players!”
Andrea John, Collyer’s Vice Principal (Pastoral) said: “We have a strong chess team here at Collyer’s, expertly managed by our own chess guru, Alex Taylor. Huge congratulations and thanks to Ben, Sam, and Evie for representing us. They are a credit to Collyer’s.”
