News Collyer’s Net ABL Spot 16.09.2020
Collyer’s have secured a place in the Academy Basketball League (ABL) for this coming season. This is a huge achievement for the college as the ABL is regarded as the second highest collegiate basketball competition in the UK!
The competition will see our men’s team compete against top teams every Wednesday, with the league set to start on the 4th November.
Coach Dominic Evans, widely regarded as one of the country’s top up and coming young basketball coaches, was thrilled: “The Basketball Academy has been going from strength to strength in the last 3 seasons. Basketball England accepting our application for ABL status next season recognises all the hard work we have put in.
“I want to offer special thanks to John Burroughs, James Gordon and Kelly Howell for all their efforts, helping to push this academy to where it is today. I know the players, Nick Probin and I can’t wait for the season to begin.”
In 2020 the Collyer’s Men’s Basketball team were crowned AOC South East Regional Champions and won the Collyer’s Team of the Year for an unprecedented second year running.
John Burroughs, Head of Collyer’s Sports Academy, said: “The men’s Basketball team are a credit to Collyer’s, Horsham and West Sussex. We certainly have a golden generation of talented athletes who are capable of great things this season. The ABL is a massive step up and incredibly exciting for all within the Collyer’s community.”
Deputy Principal Steve Martell was delighted: “This is a fitting reward for the team’s recent success on regional and national stages. The talented 2020/21 squad features some exciting fresh signings, who are looking forward to working with basketball magicians Coach Dominic Evans and Assistant Coach Nick Probin in the ABL.”
Principal Dan Lodge said: “We are building something very special here at Collyer’s. Congratulations to the basketball players, coaching group and all within our sport academies.”
