News Entrepreneur Shines at Collyer’s 27.11.2019

Collyer’s have welcomed back PVL CEO Nick Broom to the college for a Q&A session with students, focussing on employability. PVL, based in Burgess Hill, have been saving lives on the roads since 1999, as the world’s leading company creating high visibility markings for emergency service, highways and security vehicles.

During a fast-paced and entertaining Q&A session hosted by Deputy Principal Steve Martell, Nick answered questions about his career path, and covered areas including management, personal branding, turning creative ideas into action, how to make yourself employable and the importance of people skills.

Nick modestly said: “I really enjoyed the session and hope that the students got something useful from it too! I think this course is ground-breaking; it’s great to see how it has gone from strength to strength.”

The innovative Employability Programme at Collyer’s has been uniquely designed by the college to help students into the world of work with the help of taught sessions, workshops, trips and a host of inspiring special guests.

Lucy Hargreaves, Employability Programme Co-ordinator, said: “It was really kind of Nick to give up so much of his valuable time to prepare for, and take part in, the Q&A session with Steve and our keen students. Over the past year he has been incredibly supportive of our Young Enterprise and Employability Programme at Collyer’s and is genuinely passionate about helping the next generation.”

Deputy Principal Steve Martell, who teaches the highly regarded Employability course at Collyer’s, was delighted: “Nick’s a massively inspirational entrepreneur; for someone so enormously successful, he still remains incredibly humble! The students thoroughly enjoyed the lively session.”

Lucy Hargreaves added: “Employability is hugely important to us all at Collyer’s and today’s Q&A session is one of the college’s numerous progression initiatives that will run throughout this year. These include mock interviews, employability skills workshops, Not Going to Uni (NG2U) evenings, HE evenings, networking lunches and mock assessment days. 2020 is going to be busier than ever!”
