News Students Make Waves! 17.11.2022
Collyer’s students have made a splash at the Sussex School Relay Championships, as 131 teams from 30 schools & college from across Brighton & Hove, East Sussex and West Sussex descended on the swimming pool at Pavilions in the Park, Horsham for the Sussex Schools Relay Championships 2022. The results determine the medal winners, with the top teams from 8 regions aiming to secure one of the 30 spaces in each age group / gender at the English Schools Swimming Association national finals at London Aquatic Centre on Saturday 19th November 2022, the venue of the swimming competitions at the London Olympic and Paralympic Games 2012.
Collyer’s entered a boys team in the senior boys relays hoping to emulate their 2016 team that came 8th at the national finals. The team comprised Charlie Ferris, Luke Nixon, Alex Lafferty and Ranjuo Tomblin, the latter already completing at international level for British Swimming in mixed gender artistic swimming,
They were up against very strong opposition and their time in the freestyle relay of 1:47.31 would in previous seasons have put them in the top 30 schools in the country. They came 9th in the medley relay with a time of 2:06.25.
Collyer’s Head of Sports Academy, John Burroughs was delighted: “These athletes performed wonderfully, and we are hugely proud of them. Charlie, Luke, Alex and Ranjuo are a credit to Collyer’s sport.”
