Rugby

Collyers Rugby Academy was created to allow our student athletes a true college rugby experience that runs hand in hand with their academic courses. The Rugby Academy is a two term 15 & 7’s program coached by current and ex-premiership players, ERACA and County coaches.

At Collyers we have continued to develop the Rugby Academy over the past five years with recognition by other AOC college teams for the most positively developed program in the whole of Sussex. Our student athletes have represented within WRU, IRU, and Harlequins development programs, as well as Sussex and the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS).

Collyers successfully established a partnership with Horsham RUFC in 2021 expanding our use of top class facilities including an RFU rugby365 floodlit artificial grass pitch (AGP), access to brand-new state of the art changing facilities and newly refurbished clubhouse. All home games are played at Horsham RUFC.

The Rugby Academy also have access to 2 Strength and Conditioning facilities with an on-site fully qualified Level 3 Personal Trainer and Nutrition Adviser as well as a fully qualified Physiotherapist available on match days and time tabled clinics.

Collyers houses it’s very own gym on site free to all Academy students throughout the academic day, as well as heavily discounted access to 2 x award winning West Sussex gym of the year; Dual Strength &  Fitness just five minutes walk from the college campus.

The Academy program at Collyers has been designed to support our student athletes in both the classroom and on the field. At Collyers we believe in living by core values and developing young men and women mentally and physically to prepare for life after college. Throughout the season Guest Speakers are invited into the college to educate the student athletes on subjects such as Leadership & Culture, Wellbeing & Mental Health, and Mental Skills Coaching.

Rugby Academy students are required to trial at the beginning of the season before attending Preseason with the selected squad. We ask for dedicated, committed players with a good school or club level background
